Russia

http://www.themoscowtimes.com/news/article/crimea-moves-to-join-russia/495811.html

Chapter 6 provides information of Russia's governing history, mainly a communist upbringing. When Lenin came to power he used the majority group to get there, the Bolsheviks. The system he set up did nothing to help the poor, it in fact made living for them harder.  Lenin, however, wasnt the first to neglect the poor, it was Peter the great who forced Russian modernization; the poor were taxed heavily and were worse off than before but at least Russia had modernized. Lenin had a way of making his party, though small, into the dominant power. "In a situation of chaos, the best organized—not necessarily the biggest—win" (220).

In the article, the country of Crimea is willing to be a part of Russia. As the article states, 'Crimea wants to be part of Russia,' said Alexander Svistunov...'we want to live with our people and our people are in Russia.' The Russian people are spread through Crimea, being part of the Eastern Slavs which also consist of Ukrainians, Serbs, Bulgarians and Macedonians. This relates to the chapter because in the past Russia has had a way of persuading an authoritative rule using a strong organized group  and I think they are using this to annex Crimea and make them feel like they are part of "Mother Russia."
